Lab 2: *** DUE Tuesday, 2/26 no later than 2:30 pm. ***
GRADING: Lab Exercises will be graded as either 100% or 0%, nothing in between. You may re-submit your work up to three times for that 100% grade.
Again:
1.) Log-in to a workstation in Rm. 402, 4th floor Stoeckel Hall. Check your headphones for audio.
2.) Open the Chrome browser and find the Music 295b website and the Classesv2 295b site.
Then:
3.) Download both the ClassNotes_Audio_Clips.pdf and the ClassNotes_Audio_Effects1.pdf file from the Resources/Class Notes folder at the Classesv2 295b site.
4.) Review the info in these .pdf files.
Next:
5.) Download the Audio_Clips_Effects1_295_MiniMix.aif file from the Resources/Lab Exercises/Lab_2 folder at the Classesv2 295b site. Put it on your desktop.
6.) Download the Audio_Clips_Effects1_295_MiniMix.alp file from the Resources/Lab Exercises/Lab_2 folder at the Classesv2 295b site. Put it on your desktop. Double click to open it. Play the various clips in Session View to hear how they sound and see how they are processed with the various Audio Effects Racks. Study the ‘detail view’ of each clip for each track. How are Envelope Clips used? How are the Audio Effects Racks constructed? How are the various Macro Controls routed? Experiment with everything!
7.) Now, return to the Audio_Clips_Effects1_295_MiniMix.aif file and listen to it carefully. Make a chart or graph of which audio clip is playing when and for how long, as well as the audio effects that are used.
You will be allowed to watch the Audio_Clips_Effects1_295_MiniMix_Solution.als file in class and in your lab. Be sure to take notes!
Slow Introduction:

2:00 – What audio effect on which clip? How many repetitions? Does it continue?
2:19 – What audio effect on which clip? How many repetitions? Does it continue?
2:34 – What audio effect on which clip? How many repetitions? Does it continue?
2:52 – Which clip is added? How many repetitions? Does it continue?
3:09 – Which clip is added? How many repetitions? Does it continue?
3:27 – What exactly happens here? How many repetitions?
3:45 – Which clips are added here? How many repetitions?
4:00 – What exactly happens here? How many repetitions?
4:19 – Which clips are added here? How many repetitions?
4:37 – The ending, a gradual dissolve, begins here. You will create your own starting from this point.
8.) Next, use the APC40 Performance Controller to work with the Audio_Clips_Effects1_295_MiniMix.als file focusing on these additional features of the APC40: Track Selection and Device Control in additional to the parameters you’ve already learned. Play around and practice
9.) When you are prepared, use the Audio_Clips_Effects1_295_MiniMix.als file and the APC40 Performance Controller, press the global record button and record an arrangement that demonstrates your exact hearing of the Audio_Clips_Effects1_295_MiniMix.aif file. Your task, up until 4:35 or so, is to re-create the Mini-Mix as precisely as you can. Then, in your own performance, create your own chaotic ending – really push it! When you make a mistake, press Stop All Clips, press the Global Stop Button twice, go to the Arrangement View, delete all of the recorded tracks, go back to Session View, and try again.
10.) When your arrangement is finished, save your work as an .alp file and label it: Audio_Clips_Effects1_295_MiniMix_YOURNAME.alp Upload the file in your own Dropbox at the Classesv2 295b site. Be sure to put it in your Lab Exercises folder.
EXTRA CREDIT: If you wish, construct an Audio Effects Rack as follows:
